Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Temperature dependent conductivity values in EnergyPlus

Hi,
I have used the PCM model which works really well.
On the contrary I think that you should use the MaterialProperty:VariableThermalConductivity model.
Be careful that if you use this model you are also suppose to use the ConductionFiniteDifference Heat Balance Algorithm with a proper time step (most probably 60 or 30 time step per hour, you should check!!!!). This can lead to very time consuming simulations.

I'm a student relatively new to EnergyPlus trying to apply passive solar systems. I have a question about variable conductivity.  Is it possible to implement a variable conductivity of a material based on the temperature of either side?  Not necessarily a set temperature, but if I were to load a EPW file with my IDF, have it vary through the simulation.

For example, if the temperature of the external node was greater than that of the internal node, than the conductivity would be X, if not, Y.

I apologize if this is a simple question, but I've looked everywhere for a solution!  I'm curious as to if this would require modifying the source code.
