[EnergyPlus_Support] Using IDF Editor under Wine on MacOS or Ubuntu Linux

As the developer of the IDF Editor, I have recently
experimented with a program called Wine that enables Windows
based programs to work on Macintosh and Linux computers. I
am looking for volunteers to test the following procedures
and let me know how they could be improved.

Thanks

Jason

======================
MAC OS
======================

Step 1. Download WineBottler (based on Wine) from:

http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/

I used the 1.6.1 release. You need to skip a bunch of ads to
do this.

Step 2. Drag Wine from the downloaded DMG file to your
Applications folder.

Step 3. Drag WineBottler from the downloaded DMG file to
your Applications folder.

Step 4. Download Setup-IDFEd-145a.exe special installer for
Windows that only contains IDF Editor 1.45a. It is currently
located in the DropBox:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/m9dt0hey0pm2ipm/SBfK68IWmt

Step 4. Open WineBottler from your Applications folder.

Step 5. Click "Advanced"

Step 6. For program to install select the
Setup-IDFEd-145a.exe file downloaded in Step 4. Make sure
the "This is an installer, execute it" option is chosen. No
Winetricks are needed to be selected.

Step 7. Click "Install"

Step 8. Save the file as "IDFEditor145a" in your
Applications folder.

Step 9. At this point the a Setup window that looks like a
Windows program will start and you click the "Next" button.

Step 10. Use the default directory and click "Next" again.

Step 11. Use the default start menu folder and click "Next"
again.

Step 12. Click "Install"

Step 13. Click "Finish"

Step 14. In the Select Startfile dialog box that should
appear, select "Program Files/IDFEditor/IDFEditor.exe" and
click "OK". If everything has worked it should say "Prefix
created successfully"

Step 15. Double click on "IDFEditor145a" in your
Applications folder.

Step 16. IDF Editor should start up.

Step 17. To open files from EnergyPlus 8.1 (assuming it is
installed) go to the "/" folder, "Applications" folder,
"EnergyPlus-8-1-0" folder, "ExampleFiles" and open a file.

located in the DropBox:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/m9dt0hey0pm2ipm/SBfK68IWmt

Step 3. Right click on the Setup-IDFEd-145a.exe file and
select "Open With" and "Wine Windows Program Loader"

Step 4. At this point the a Setup window that looks like a

Step 5. Use the default start menu folder and click "Next"
again.
