[EnergyPlus_Support] Energy Plus model for a Portable Air Conditioner

Hi everyone,

I'm currently involved into a project aimed at studying the influence of roof construction on AC consumption.
In order to estimate the roof impact we have built 4 demonstrators 0.9 X 0.95 X 1.6 m with 4 different roof constructions. Each demonstrator is equipped with a portable air conditioner by Westpoint, with the following specs:

COOLING CAPACITY: 8500 BTU/hr = 2491 Watts
POWER/AMPERE CONSUMPTION = 900W/4.3A
AIR VOLUME (MAX SPEED)=300 m3/h
HUMIDITY REMOVAL CAPACITY= 1L/hr
POWER SUPPLY=220-240 V, 50Hz
COMPRESSOR=ROTARY
REFRIGERANT=R410A
FAN SPEED=2
TIMER=1-12 hours

I'm currently working on building an E+ model of our setup and I have already built the geometry, i.e. 2 floors with the 4 demonstrator on the roof, and I got some acceptable correlation between numerical and experimental surface temperature (I still have to improve the model). On the other hand now I'm facing the challenge to create the model for the Westpoint  air conditioning system. I have in mind two possible paths:
  1. Create an AC model within Openstudio using the packaged roof top template and then just try to modify the parameter i know from the specs (previously presented), since the Openstudio systems are autosized almost everywhere
  2. Modify the "RoofTopPackagedHeatPump.idf" template available in E+
The first option looks to me faster to realize while the second more accurate; on the other hand the E+ template concerns really big and power systems (I think) so if I just change some parameter here and there will the HAVC model still work?
So I hope that someone can advice me on what is the best way to proceed!!!

Thanks in advance for the support.

Ciao

Luca
