RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] Error and crash in this .idf


If you haven’t done so already, I recommend that you learn how to use the E+ .idf editor and read a little about the input objects in the E+ manual. �If you export the .idf from DesignBuilder you can open it from E+ Launch.� The advantage of using the editor is you just scroll down to the airflownetwork section (or the building surfaces), and all the object in your model will be listed there together.



I’m sorry but I don’t know DesignBuilder well enough to tell you where or what to look for there.� One of the issues I have with the program is that it can make it too easy to make some sort of model without understanding what is going into your simulation.� I am suspicious of the term “cavity” that you used.� That is DB speak and I’m not sure what it translates to in E+.

Maybe my inexperience makes me uneasy... I checked the surface in the buildingsurface:detailed list and it is correcly matched with the external boundary conditions (cavity)... In addition to this i don't know where to check and in particular how to check. I created the model in designbuilder and the surface is parto of a common slope roof...



Any suggestion?

The error message seems reasonably clear, E+ doesn’t think this surface has air around it.� Make sure the surface description calls this a roof and not a floor and that it is exposed to the outside.� Check the orientation, although that typically generates other warnings.



Also check your other airflownetwork objects, you need a control, a crack type, and an outside surface.� E+ will sometimes generate error messages when related objects are missing or incorrectly specified.

Dear friends,

I don't know why but after adding a vented roof in this .idf (which worked without problems) Energy plus crashes during a run and the error log shows this:
�� ** Severe� ** GetAirflowNetworkInput: AirflowNetwork:MultiZone:Surface: Invalid Surface Name = P4:P4%A12ZN6U_ROOF_6_0_0
�� **�� ~~~�� ** This type of surface (has ground, etc exposure) cannot be used in the AiflowNetwork model.

I tried to check but I don't understand how to fix this error... It seems to be all right...
Moreover, I had problems uploading the idf so the only way is to download it from the link below.... Excuse me for that...
