RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] Re: ASHRAE Pump modeling approach

Dear Fabiano,

If your proposed system does not have a chilled water plant, it may not matter how you define the Baseline but I am unsure if you mean that there is no coooling in the Proposed system or something else.

I think “evenly distributed” means 50% of power to both primary and secondary pumps. This seems appropriate only in the absence of good information about the piping systems.  Most primary / secondary systems have equal flow and roughly equal pump efficiency, but very unequal pressure drops.  As a result, the secondary pump normally has a larger motor.  That is probably why the ruling says that power “may be distributed between the Baseline primary and secondary pumps consistent with the proposed design” (e.g., proportional to actual pressure drops)

Subject: [EnergyPlus_Support] Re: ASHRAE Pump modeling approach

Hello everyone,

I've got recently a review comment about the same topic. I've read the LEED Interpretation 10299, which says:

"For projects registered after the date of this LEED Interpretation, the total Baseline chilled water system pump power shall be 22 W/gpm per ASHRAE 90.1-2007 Section G3.1.3.10; and the Baseline pump power shall be evenly distributed between the Baseline primary and secondary chilled water pumps. Alternatively, if the proposed case has primary/secondary chilled water pumps, the Baseline pump power may be distributed between the Baseline primary and secondary pumps consistent with the proposed design".

Could anyone explain what does it means when it says that the pump power shall be evenly distributed between the Baseline primary and secondary chilled water pumps? I mean, if the proposed does not have chilled water plant, how should I distribute the pump power?

Regards,

Fabiano Ferreira
