RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] Air Flow Network and Infiltration

When you use Airflow Network, you are defining a complex air flow based on wind pressure and temperature differences. Normal infiltration settings are not counted. If you want them, you will need to define additional Airflow Network objects that can generate the additional flow. This is not an easy task unless you know a lot about your building and you have appropriate data.

I have a project where we measured actual building air infiltration, divided the flow across all windows and a known hole in the roof, and ran a simulation using a CFD wind analysis and actual site measured weather. Our model was within 7% of the actual measured energy for winter heating. When we applied “recommended” infiltration values without the airflow network, model predicted about 60% more energy use than we actually had.

So I guess the real question is what do you want to learn from the model?

Subject: [EnergyPlus_Support] Air Flow Network and Infiltration

I am trying to use AirFlow Network objects for the first time to model natural cross ventilation thru a room with two windows on opposite facades.

How does the model account for infiltration? I am getting a warning saying that ZoneInfiltration objects will not be simulated if Specified AirflowNetwork Control = "MultizoneWithoutDistribution" and ZoneInfiltration:* objects are present.

Thanks!
