Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] How to convert real weather data to epw file

To the best of my knowledge, the WeatherConverter program uses an early 2001 version of the procedure I developed to calculate the solar radiation using two models - 1) the Zhang-Huang Model to calculate the global horizontal radiation, after which 2) the Watanabe Model is used to calculate the direct normal radiation based on the solar altitude and the ratio of the global horizontal to the extraterrestrial radiation.  The Zhang-Huang Model is a multi-dimensional regression model of which Cloud Cover is the most important term.  CldCv1, CldCv2, CldCv3 seem like cloud cover recordings at different heights above the ground.  Typically, if a weather file has these, it should have another record for just Cloud Cover or Opaque Cover.
If it doesn't, I would recommend using the largest value of the CldCv1, CldCv2, or CldCv3. If the fields are there, but always blank, then you should find the nearest weather file that does and use the Cloud Cover from that file. In such a case, at no time should you run WeatherConverter, because while it will produce radiation numbers, they will all be calculated with CC=0, i.e., no clouds.

The historical real-time weather in (non-EnergyPlus) CSV has "CldCv1", "CldCv2", "CldCv3" data, which is "SKC" or blank. It does not have the numeric "sky cover" data. Cloud Cover is not an input field to the weather converter program. Is it possible to populate the global_horizontal_radiation, direct_normal_radiation, and diffuse_horizontal_radiation fields with such data? I've found solar irradiation data for US sites, but I'm working on a location in Asia. Any ideas?
