[EnergyPlus_Support] Re: undergroundbuilding simulation
Slab and Basement preprocessors are 3-D heat transfer programs.
They find the outer surface temperatures when the indoor air is conditioned to a certain temperature
When these outer surface temperatures are then used in the simulation, you can expect more accurate energy for cooling or heating the indoors.
You can include either vertical or horizontal insulation (but not both) into these Slab or Basement utilities
Such insulation contributes to the design of low energy buildings especially when the ground temperature is too far away (too cold normally) from thermal comfort temperatures.
Preliminary simulations show that 0.8m deep vertical insulation may save about 10% of heating energy for a a single storey building located at about 37 degrees latitude from equator.
