I am an engineering intern at NASA Langley Research Center this summer working on developing an energy usage model for a newly constructed building on the center. The program being used for this model is Trane Trace 700 Version 6.3.0 simulation
software. My question pertains to importing weather data into the program.
Trane Trace is capable of using a variety of different file types including TMY, TM2, TM3, TRY, IWC, and EPW. The model currently is being run with a TMY file which is an average weather file. I am interested in finding a way to import
actual year weather data which will allow for the model to be calibrated.
I have tried downloading TM3 files from the National Solar Radiation Database, but they come in a CSV Excel format that I have not been able to convert into the .TM3 file that Trane Trace recognizes. I have also downloaded an .EPW weather
file in excel format, and been successful running the model with this data. However, in order to modify the model to represent actual weather data for a specific year I need to be able to better interpret the different columns and rows of the EPW file Excel
spreadsheet. I was hoping that you could provide some insight on this matter or a key explaining what the different cells mean.
If not, I was wondering if you have any general suggestions on how to get an actual weather data file into one of the formats listed rather than a typical or average year, as well as any calibration techniques. Thanks in advance for any
