What you describe should work, but you might be more explicit by setting the Source Side Flow Control Mode to StorageTank to model a passive tank.

Sounds right. I've not looked at this object for some time so my memory of it is "rusty".

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. So if I set 2 WaterHeater objects, for one WaterHeater, if I input the Heater Maximum Capacity value to "0" and the Heater Control Type to "Cycle", does it mean this WaterHeater plays only as a storage tank which is used to store the hot water?

In the loop to the solar panel, you want to feed the solar panel water as cold as you can, so the two tank system sounds better.

Dear all,

I am modelling a solar desiccant cooling system using EPlus. My design is to using solar thermal energy to provide hot water for the regenerative heating coil to regenerate the return air which is used to drive the desiccant wheel.
My problem is:for the solar collector system, I want to define a hot water storage tank which is used to store the hot water heated from the solar collector and to feed the regenerative heating coil. I also want to set up a backup heater for the storage tank in case of the solar is not enough. However I am not sure how many WaterHeater:Mixed objects I need to set in EPlus. Should I set up two WaterHeater:Mixed objects (one for storage tank and the other for backup heater), or do I just need to set up one as the WaterHeater:Mixed object is both a storage tank and backup heater? Thanks very much if anyone can help me.

Bruce
