Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Best way to simulate void (like in Mall or Mezzanine)

Start simulation as a usual process. All you need is to specify the geometry of the building, set the internal zone parameters, attach weather files in e+ and get started! If you are looking fi baseline energy performance in internal zone, start specifying the parameter in e+.

I do not know if you are looking other options/ solution. If you are looking for independent simulation of materials used in roof and window in specific zone, then u can probably think of COMSOL tool which is good software for CFD for products and materials.

Thanks for reply,

Sure I will consider about the weather and thermal properties of roof and glasses. The problem is how to simulate inside the zone.

Interesting project. I agree, CFD is a good tool. Owner to consider Option 3, one can think of specify insulation to the internal walls and roof. For wall deploy low U values, possibly, 0.35 (always low works) and ensure minimum heat gain from direct solar. Low e-glass coated may work, thats my two cents. Hope it works! Note: Please be considered about the climate, and surrounding zones of the level 5+void.

You have quite a static situation here.
CFD is probably your best bet, however, if you can measure
(or carefully guess) temperatures at different heights,
there are some very usable roomair models to consider...they
consider a temperature stratification within the one zone. I
consider this approach better that splitting the zone
vertically with clear windows and guessing at the vertical
air exchange rates.

All,
I got the
project to evaluate air conditioning at mall. The problem is
temperature in level 5 (getting heat directly from skylight)
is too high (average is 27 degree of C). Owner want to know
if we do something to skylight like adding shading or use
film can make temperature lower to comfort level. Skylight
is 21 meter from level 5.
Then my question is how the best way to
simulate that? I consider some options :1. Modelling
1 zone cooling for level 5 and void. But I think energyplus
calculates average temperature for whole zone.2.
Using zone mixing feature. The problem is how to define the
airflow between the zone.3. Or Can we define special
material for wall or ceiling so there is really small
resistance for heat transfer between level 5 and void
?
Please let me know what do
you think the best way to solve the problem. I really hope
energyplus can offer good solution because CFD is too
expensive for owner :)
 Really appreciate for any
help.
