Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] RE: Call for IDF Editor Suggestions

Jason
â??,

I am thinking of something simpler and more integrated than git. Basically,  If IDF editor could automatically save time stamped backups and also had a feature to compare differences between two files allowing the user to have a sense of version based on the autosave time stamp and the differences between files.

The screenshot below is from the diff software I use called Araxis merge. I use this along with saving idf files in folders with time or date as my model progresses but would prefer to have these features native to IDF editor.

Hi,

About the version control, I'm curious as well about what you mean Jeremiah.
I personally use git for this purpose, but maybe I'm missing your point.

Jeremiah

Could you elaborate further what you mean by version control with autosave? How would you like it to work?

Thanks

Jason

Jason,

Another feature that is desirable for IDF editor is to have some type of version control with auto-save.

Thanks

Benson,

It looks like both AvailabilityManager:OptimumStart and AvailabilityManager:HybridVentilation were left off as \key choices in the AvailabilityManagerAssignmentList object in the Energy+.idd file. Since the IDF Editor depends on the Energy+.idd file that was causing the problem you were seeing. We will try to get that fixed for the next release of EnergyPlus.

Hi Jason

I've observed the following with IDF editor which may require a minor fix.

AvailabilityManager:OptimumStart is not listed in the list of selectable object types under AvailabilityManagerAssignmentList. I understand that it should be one of the options, based on the the documentation and usage in the example file 'OptimalStart_RefBldgLargeOfficeNew2004_Chicago.idf'.

The IDF runs fine once it's typed in, but it was a slightly confusing when IDF editor didn't provide it as a selectable option and highlighted it as an invalid input when I typed it in.

Kind Regards
Benson
