Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Haidian Weather File

Wind is definitely an interesting topic. Most statistical weather files lack good data, and we use hourly averages. Window and other natural ventilation strategies (which hang tightly together with comfort analysis) as well as wind turbine solutions could surely benefit from simulating wind gusting on sub-hourly bases if correlated somehow to hourly averages.

Harshul,

Thanks for sharing  your point of view / insight on these wind questions, it's very interesting: wind studies are definitely not in my comfort zone, but it's always worth seeing how one would approach such problems.

Good luck finding the weather data,

Julien

Julien,

I won't jump on the conclusion so soon as looks like there is a weather station for Haidian too as per 海象 and our internal search on Baidu.

This email was more like to know if someone from Tsinghua University (if on this group) can help us out as they are very close to our site & do lot of technical stuff in the area (credits to Joe Huang for this information).

We are more concern on just wind direction & speed what I also wrote in my first email, as Haidian is much closer to the mountain ranges (North & west) than actual Beijing downtown. I don't think any other parameters will have a major difference. Luckily we are doing a good number of projects in the area so it gives an opportunity to get familiar with the area by stepping on the land first hand.

Beijing metropolitan has 6 different "wind tunnels" because of mountains on North/West & urban heat effect. If you are interested, here is some more info: о6з

They are more or less from same direction but still a detailed analysis is needed.

Unfortunately it's in Chinese (simplified) but give it a try: http://cmalibrary.cn/amst/201401/yjlw/zt1/201403/P020140311558827669740.pdf

I also know this isn't the enough information to understand the whole scenario but itâ??s alright for now for me.

(I apologize if any of the above links act weird, it happened with me earlier to one of my email I sent to my colleague).

Harshul,

Beijing Intl AIrport is 30 km away, so I doubt you'll do much better than that.

But I'm curious what makes you think "the topography is completely different". I certainly know nothing about the area, but asking for a walk route between your approximate building location and the Inlt Airport doesn't seem to indicate much sea-level differences.

FYI, Weather Underground doesn't seem very common in China, and there are no stations in the Beijing Area, so that's not an option either.

Best,
Julien

Hi everyone,

Hope things are well..

We are looking for the most updated weather file for Haidian area (Beijing) to understand more of the wind strategies. I ran the simulation based on the EPW files for Beijing (from EnergyPlus website) but I think the data won't be accurate for Haidian as the topography is completely different.

Can anyone provide me the updated version of the weather file for Haidian? I tried to contact some agencies too but haven't heard back yet.

Red dot is where our site is in the map. For sure I prefer a weather data that is closer to our site (if itâ??s possible).

Thanks,

Harshul Singhal
