[Equest-users] Multi-Story Building with Overhanging Floors

Hi Dwight,

One approach to a situation like this is to create zones that have boundaries along the outline of the shell above. This will cause the wizard to create roof sections that can be easily removed from the part of the shell that lies directly under the shell above. The only catch is that this won't work if you have a plenum space. I have found that removing the plenum usually makes a negligible difference in the results, but you might want to check for your specific building to see if you can safely remove them. If you can't remove them, you might want to zone the building as described above and them simply add the roof sections as you go in detailed mode. Keep in mind that you only need to attach the correct area of roof to the correct zone and that the roof section does not need to line up exactly with the space below to give the correct envelope loads. It doesn't need to look good to give good results.

Hope that helps,
Dan

I am trying to find a work around to specify the roof properties of the small roofs created when the floor above is smaller in size. Currently all I can change is the roof for the whole level. Any suggestions as to how I achieve this? A screen shot of my model is attached.
