[Equest-users] U value of Glass

The WINDOW 5/6 program from LBNL will calculate the overall U-factor and 
Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of the window assembly, but you will 
need to describe the window in some detail, i.e., number of panes, glass 
optical characteristics, gap width, frame conductance,  etc.

However, once you've done this, I would recommend that you just import 
the WINDOW output file to eQUEST, rather than model the window using the 
U-factor and SHGC.  These (U-factor, SHGC) are bulk properties meant 
mainly as a rating system for fenestration, such as NFRC in the US, and 
are for standard atmospheric conditions and window size.  If you do use 
them in eQUEST,  you will be modeling the window with the SIMPLE WINDOW 
model where the angular properties and U-factor dependence with 
temperature are based on single-pane clear glass.  If you do not have 
sufficient information on the window to do a WINDOW 5/6 calculation,  a 
better alternative to using the SIMPLE WINDOW model would be to search 
through the eQUEST window library and find the closest match to the 
known bulk properties.
