Attached is an announcement of two post-doc positions at the Georgia
Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Especially the second position
might be interesting to the members of this list. We hope to fill the
position as soon as possible. If you are interested please send an
application letter with your CV to me.

The Ph. D. Program in the College of Architecture at Georgia Institute of Technology has an expanding research program in architectural and building technologies. It has two openings for post Ph
.D. researchers. These are full-time positions, starting at the earliest available time.

. Georgia Tech has several projects involving the definition of building models in specific areas the construc
tion industry, and in developing databases supporting building models. These will be pre-production systems that are industry. Successful candidates for this position will have a strong background in software development, with several years programming in
 
C and C++, and optionally Java, with experience in software engineering methods. They need also to have competency and working experience in ISO-STEP product modeling technologies, with EXPRESS toolkits and developing interfaces using them The ideal candi
date would also have solid background databases schema design and implementation. . This person will work with graduate students from a variety of program areas. This is a multi-year project with opportunities for teaching, if desired.

 It deals with the development of constructive interfaces between energy simulation programs and architectural design activities}{\b\fs22 .}{\fs22  The emphasis is on flexible and workflow sensitive interfaces, that provi
de synchronized access to both structured and unstructured design information. The project, funded by DOE, is a collaboration between GA Tech, University of Michigan and Carnegie-Mellon University. The post doc will be stationed at GA Tech and participate
 
in a team with Ph.D. students from the three institutions. The contract is initially for one year. Contract extension will be contingent on follow-up funding. The end product of the first year will be a prototype of an interface between DOE's EnergyPlus a
n
d a selection of distinct design decisions related to building energy performance. Successful candidates for this position will have a good background in building energy simulation, a good understanding of architectural design practice and be able to mast
e
r process and information modeling skills rapidly. Hands-on experience with web development tools and information exchange standards (mainly XML) will be considered a plus for the position. The post doc is expected to have good communication and organizat
ional skills and maintain good relations with the building energy analysis community.
