[EnergyPlus_Support] Shading in Energy Plus

Hi everybody,
I'm trying to understand how to input shading devices in E+. I've been reading the input/output documentation and I noticed that there are 2 basic types of shading - attached and detached. I understand the conceptual differences between them but not the differences in terms of how do they affect the results. Could anybody give me a light on what difference does it make to specify a shading as detached or attached to the results?
I also have a very simple question concerning roof overhangs: will they shade windows in the zone below them or not? i.e. do they need to be modelled as shading surfaces? or they will be automatically considered in the calculation?
I thank you very much in advance for the help and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best regards,
