[EnergyPlus_Support] solar calculation

All,

A significant portion of the simulation time in EnergyPlus is taken by
the solar calculation, calculating the insolation and shading. For a
large model, especially with detailed window definition, it is painful
to repeat the simulation because of this.

Is there a way where we do this once, and keep the result (of
insolation and shading calculation) in a file, and then refer to the
file during the annual simulation? Obviously, the insolation and
shading calculation will be exactly the same for every geometry. If we
do not change the geometry of the building (and the shading devices
and obstructions), there no need to repeat this calculation every time
we run the simulation.


EnergyPlus has shd file as an OUTPUT. If this is the result of the
shading and insolation calculation, is there a way we can use this
file as an INPUT? If it is possible, I think the simulation time will
be MUCH faster.

I would be very glad if this is possible, but I could not find it
anywhere in the manual.

A wishlist entry, probably?

PS. This option is available in ESP-r. Shading and insolation is
calculated as part of model development. You do it once, and include
the file for every simulation using the same geometry.
