Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] concrete core conditioning + latent heat storage material

Hello,

I have had a small amount of experience with the phase change materials in E+. It is possible to model them within any other construction. There are a few steps which must be performed. First the solution algorithm must be changed from CTF to CondFD to turn on Conduction Finite Difference solution scheme for the simulation. As far as I know E+ automatically selects the number of nodes it will use to solve the finite difference scheme for each construction. Secondly, the materials must be defined. If I remember correctly, any phase change material should first be defined as a regular material, and then create a secondary material definition which is temperature dependent, and requires enthalpy/temperature data. To get the nodal temperature distribution within the constructions, just add the report variable: CondFD Nodal Temperature. There will be many nodes in the output, so be prepared for lots of data. Also, when using the CondFD solution scheme, it is
recommended to have at least 20 timesteps/hour for the solution timestep.

Good luck!

Subject: [EnergyPlus_Support] concrete core conditioning + latent heat storage material

Hello erverybody,

I would like to know, if it is possible to model concrete core
conditioning in combination with phase chance material (at the same
construction). If yes, wich heat transfer calculation does EnergyPlus
use and is it possible to get the inside temperature of the different
layers as an output?

Thanks in advance
Sebastian
