The insulation width is 2*APRatio.
The dimensions of the slab are reported in the *.out output file from the Slab
program. Look at the example files in
\EnergyPlusV2-0-0\PreProcess\GrndTempCalc\
SlabExample.idf and SlabExample.out
The input for APRatio in this example is 10.
In SlabExample.out:
FLOOR AREA (M**2): 1600.
PERIMETER (M): 160.0
MIN X (M): -20.00 MAX X: 20.00
MIN Y (M): -20.00 MAX Y: 20.00
The equivalent slab is always a square, in this case, the length of each side
is 40m (X=-20 to X=+20). Area=40*40=1600, and Perimeter=40*4=160
Area/Perimeter = 1600/160 = 10
So, for a fully insulated slab, the perimeter insulation width would be 20, or
2*APRatio.
This can also be shown algebraically:
A=L*L, P=4*L, APRatio=A/P=(L*L)/(4*L)=L/4
So, full insulation width is L/2 = 2*APRatio
We will add some explanation of this to the documentation.
