[EnergyPlus_Support] Turning system on/off based on temperature predictions

I would like to tell a system, e.g. a heat pump, to turn on/off
arbitrarily for each hour, not based on current zone or node
temperatures but based on my own algorithms that dictate an optimal
control sequence. Is this doable in energyplus? Could I create a
dummy zone that controls the systems? Can I create an on/off schedule
for the equipment itself, rather than an availability schedule or a
setpoint schedule?

The best thing I can think of is to tweak the availability and
setpoint schedules to force the system into 100% on or off when I want
it so.

Thanks,
Nick
