RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] airflow between-core perimeter zones

You can use pairs of Mixing objects as well as Cross Mixing.  There doesn’t need to be a hole, the air exchanges from these objects happen in software and don’t need a physical pathway defined.  Be careful that the flows are balanced.  One way to estimate flow rates is to assume an air change per hour (ACH) rate for perimeter zone’s mixing with the core.  Then calculate flow rates that provide the ACH.  Single-sided natural ventilation can usually get 5 ACH but higher rates are possible at it depends on many factors that aren’t usually well known.

Subject: [EnergyPlus_Support] airflow between-core perimeter zones

Hi all,

I am modelling a one-story Hangar which is a large single room. I want
to split this room into 4 perimeter (N,S,E,W) and one core zone,
however since this is a single room (no internal partitions in the
actual case) there needs to be air exchange between the zones.

My question is:

Using cross-mixing, is it the only way to simulate this configuration?
(and what ach would be a good guess, in terms of air exchange between
to adjacent zones?)

Is there any "hole" command (as in Design builder) in Energy+ to
achieve air exchange between the zones? (or can I just remove the
internal partitions after defining the zones separately?)

Thanks in advance for all your help!
Alper
