You can run a free floating temperature run with no HVAC
system set up:

see example file: 1ZoneUncontrolled.idf

If you want to size an HVAC system, I'd suggest looking at the
CompactHVAC example files.  These will set up all the branch/node
statements for you.

e.g.  CompactHVAC-5ZonePurchAir.idf

or any of the files starting with names CompactHVAC

or look at the example files which start "PurchAir". 
these do theoretical "loads" on a system but have no branches
or nodes explicit in the input file.  They do have thermostat
settings, etc.

Or are you specifically trying to Size a system?  That's a different
answer.
