[EnergyPlus_Support] IDF Editor
Hello,
I am new to EnergyPlus and I was having a problem with
the IDF Editor. I am also new to user/ support groups,
so my posting here may be awkward.
The problem that I was having is that object/ class inputs
for zones and zone heat transfer walls were shuffled to
the front of the *.idf file after saving. Some postings
on November 17, 2006, which I've copied below, seem to
answer my question.
Going into a text editor and cutting and pasting classes
in the order I want seems to correct the problem.
But going into a text editor as a work around seemed odd
to me.
I just wanted to confirm that I am approaching
the IDF Editor correctly.
Are there any IDF Editor users out there that could give
me input? Will IDF Editor object shuffling be an ongoing
issue with newer versions (I'm using V 2.1) ?
Otherwise, I enjoy the IDF Editor. I find it intuitive.
I'm not interested in using any GUI right now.
The IDF Editor is a great learning tool helping me to
get close to the FORTRAN modules without actually
see the source code.

No, IDF Editor always rearranges input objects when it saves. Using both types
of editors does not work well unless you only use IDF Editor to look at input
objects and then make all the changes in the text editor.

I use both IDF Editor and Text Editor to edit my idf files.
But how can I edit an idf file in IDF Editor and save the changes
through IDF Editor in such a way that the arrangement of the text I´ve
made previously using Text Editor keep on?
What´s happening is that when I save changes through IDF Editor it
reorganize (or make a mess, for me)
all the text in a pattern from IDF Editor.
It is possible saving changes in IDF Editor without this text
rearrangement?
