Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Specificaton of PTHP Units

When autosizing it is best to autosize all inputs that can be autosized. Yes it OK to autosize select inputs, but these type of errors may occur. Look at the eio file and find the autosized air flow rate for the Coil:Heating:DX:SingleSpeed OFFICE N PTHP HEATING COIL. Then calculate the Rated air volume flow rate per watt of rated total heating capacity based on your entered capacity to see how far out of range you are. Since the PTHP is zone equipment, you should use the actual flow rate for each zone to calculate the capacity for each PTHP unit. Or you could manually enter the air flow rate for each PTHP unit to avoid this error.

Hi there,

I've got a question about the PTHP-Units.
So far, I did several simulation runs, I've simulated the model completely on autosizing and wanted to implement step by step the given design values afterwards.
However, encountered problems when I specify the COPs and capacities of the units but leave the flow rates on autosize.

The error-message in this case is as follows:

** Severe ** Coil:Heating:DX:SingleSpeed OFFICE N PTHP HEATING COIL: Rated air volume flow rate per watt of rated total heating capacity is out of range. See Input-Output Reference Manual for valid range.

If I check the Input-Output Reference Manual it says in the section for the DX Cooling Coil, that "the rated air volume flow rate should be between 0.00004027 m3/s and 0.00006041 m3/s per watt of rated total cooling capacity" (s.p. 1216).
Now, what I'v did, was using the upper value for two zones, multiplied by the design capacity, and I still have the same error message for those two zones.

What else could be the problem for this?

What are the necessary specs for a PTHP unit and which values can I leave on autosize?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Tobias
