There are two example files that use these surfaces (they use all of
them...  to illustrate that they work). 4ZoneWithShading_Simple_1.idf and
4ZoneWithShading_Simple_2.idf  They are only "simple" in that they have
simple descriptions.

One of the buildings is surrounded on three sides by ground.  For a half
buried wall, you would need to enter two walls, one with ground contact,
one as exterior.

Yes, they should be fine for compliance if you can represent your building
that way.
