Actually, one solution for parallel processors that is
relatively easy to implement is to split the simulation period into number of
processors and do periods simultaneously. For example, for quad core machine,
do 1/1 to 3/31 on the 1st, 4/1 to 6/30 on the 2nd, 7/1 to
9/30 on the 3rd and 10/1/to 12/31 on the fourth processor. We tested this option without any overlap (i.e., to increase
accuracy one can start few days earlier each period) and the results were functionally
identical with the run that was done in sequence on one processor. The running
time was 4 times shorter using parallel processors, though. This is implementable on the level of user interface and can be
nicely scaled to the number of available processors, so we don’t necessarily need
