You can verify this by not having the shade and making the shade completely opaque, and note the differences. If you use an external horizontal venetian blind, you can change the slat angle to see the differences using a schedule.
The overlap was mentioned in the warning message. I do not know the implication. If you leave a gap, the result will not be the same as intended.
If you can locate all the surfaces referred by the error message, you may find the cause. It is not easy as all the surface names are in numbers, and the coordinates to six decimal places.
If an opaque shade (open and close the blind) in the same position does not change the lighting level in the room, the shade with holes is not effective and can be ignored..

Window transmitted solar energy generated from the Energy Plus output changes with the change in the external shading device geometry resonably. Is that enough to tell me that Energy Plus is responding to the presence of my external shading device?
Do I need to unoverlap all the surfaces in the shading device so I will not get the warning as it's considered error? |
