There are no particular ways to "develop a fast 64 bit
version". No methods that would, in particular, take advantage
of 64 bit architecture.
Our Intel compiler will natively compile for the 64 bit platform -- we
have just not found it useful when we did so for either computation speed
or memory usage.
I halved the amount of time to run the test suite of files when I shifted
my laptop (my development platform) to Dual Core intel.
