p.s., Just to be sure…. For the Baseline and Proposed models, the heating and cooling
must be ON at the same times. In other words, if cooling is ON May
through September for the Baseline, it must be ON at the same time for the
Proposed system (or longer, I suppose). It would be cheating to turn OFF the Proposed system! The Building Performance Team From: EnergyPlus_Support@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Devanathan Mr. Dirkes, Oh alright. I thought 90.1 App. G
asks us to model heating and cooling ON throughout the year. I would have
probably misinterpreted the verbiage. Thanks for the clarification. Regards, Vinay On Thu, Jul 8, 2010 at 9:25 PM,

Vinay, Standard
90.1 says you must model a heating and cooling system, but does not say that it
must be operating continuously. Obviously, most cooling systems are OFF
during cold weather; this is normal and expected. I suspect that cooling
IS available via an economizer control. If,
for some reason, you actually need to operate your DX system in the middle of
the winter as sometimes is the case, I’m not sure what to do. I
think, though, that you can adjust the coil curves to reflect the actual
equipment’s operation without causing a problem in E+. The Building Performance Team From: EnergyPlus_Support@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:EnergyPlus_Support@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]

Vinay, · A simple way to fix this is to assign an
availability schedule to the cooling coil which is ON only during warmer
months. For the coil below, I’ve used an “AlwaysOn”
schedule, but you can create any schedule that you like, perhaps similar to the
one I show at the bottom. The Building Performance Team From: EnergyPlus_Support@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:EnergyPlus_Support@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]
