Hi Javed:

In the model inspector, window belongs to "OS:subSurface" and  wall belongs to "OS:surface". For the first workflow, in the model inspector, the "surface type" field does not have "window" type. For the second workflow, I can only change the surface type (floor, wall or roof) to one of the three types. I cannot change the surface type (wall, floor or roof) to subsurface type. 

I use the latest version, openstudio 0.5. Maybe you use a different version?

4. Change it into Window

OR

1. Just select the window 
2. left click n go to the openstudio option
3. Change the surface properties to window

BTW if the distance is zero then why don't you make whole as a one window:) just a thought..Coz Thermal modeling is bit different from the Architectural Design..

But I want to add another window next to previous window (the distance is zero), it is automatically recognized as a wall surface. How can I change the the wall (surface type in openstudio) to window (subsurface type) in OpenStudio?
