RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] HVAC template

I think, you are jumping around in learning.

First, what do you want to do?

Any building with HVAC has heating, ventilation, air-conditioning equipment.

Hot locations  only need cooling.  Cold locations  need heating, and cooling is needed for comfort only.   In Singapore, I can design a comfortable home without HVAC using EPlus for simulation.

When you used HVAC the building is devided into Zones, Eequipment are used to feed conditioned air into the zones.  You can place water coils directly into the zone, as you have described.   These are zone equipmnt.  Air damper is also zone equipment.  Thermometer can be place in the zone, and other monitoring points.

The air handling equipment is usually called the air handling unit (AHU) and is called system in EPlus.  One AHU usually feeds a number of zones.  A single zone AHU may not behave as the same as a multi-zone AHU.  It is not simpler to simulated a single zone building.  Usually such a building is not complete.  A building is not a simple cube.
===================
The heating and cooling source can be air, water is called fluid in EPlus.

The equipment to provide cooling water  is chiller and heating water is boiler.

The coil uses direct expansion of coolent id the DX coil.  Electric and gas heater can be placed directly in the air path.  There are more options in the EPlus document.

===================
A boilder can be gas, oil, electric, solar, ground source heated.

A chiller can be a refrigerator, ice, absorbtion, etc.  The waste heat has to be carried away by air, water condenser loop.  The condenser loop may need a cooling tower.

To make thing easier to handle, you can purchase cooling and heating directly using District cooling and District heating.
========================
When you study the various combination of equipment used in HVAC, many of them are similar but with interchanging parts.  For example, gas boiler, oil boiler, electric boiler.

Using   HVACtemplate:Plant:Boiler
================

HVACTemplate:Plant:Boiler,

District Heating, !- Boiler Name

HotWaterBoiler, !- Boiler Type

autosize, !- Capacity {W}

0.8,    !- Efficiency

NaturalGas,  !- Fuel Type

1,  !- Priority

1.0; !- Sizing Factor

===========

This is on 2068 of the I/O manual.

By changing the word NaturalGas, you can an object to diffeent fuel type.
The size is calculated to meet your building demand.  There are other related object, such as plant sizing, available managers, set point temperature schedules generated at the same time.  The branch and node names are automatically generated.

For packaged terminal air conditioner (PTAC) systems with optional hot water boiler: HVACTemplate:Thermostat
HVACTemplate:Zone:PTAC
HVACTemplate:Plant:HotWaterLoop (optional)
HVACTemplate:Plant:Boiler (optional)

or part of

For fan coil systems with boilers and chillers:
HVACTemplate:Thermostat
HVACTemplate:Zone:FanCoil
HVACTemplate:Plant:ChilledWaterLoop
HVACTemplate:Plant:HotWaterLoop
HVACTemplate:Plant:Chiller
HVACTemplate:Plant:Boiler
HVACTemplate:Plant:Tower
========================
Unless you are an expert user, you should not mix template with non template object in the in the first IDF entry.  In the expIDF, you may modify the objects in the correct ways.
=======================

You can try to find the temperates to match your real system.  They are there.  You can enter the temperature set point values in another related templates.

There are inlet and outlet nodes in the zone, system, and plant branches and all will be defined, if the templates are filled in correctly.

Subject: [EnergyPlus_Support] HVAC template

Dear members
i read input output reference (I/O ref )

i dont undrestand HVAC/template when we use for example : hvactemplate:plant: boiler what is meaning?it define inlet and outlet node automaticly?

could you desribe it please?
thanks
