Hi Tooran,

I'm not sure if there is equipment capable of maintaining a temperature at the supply inlet node.  In real life this could be done by matching the plant heat output and the pump speed to the energy demand, but I'm not sure how you'd achieve this in EnergyPlus.  I've never had to model a system this way.  You could probably achieve it using the Energy Management System.

A SetpointManager is basically a control point - it indicates the status to be maintained at that point in the loop.  For example, if you set the PlantLoop Supply Outlet Node to maintain a certain temperature, the equipment on the supply side of the plant loop will need to operate to maintain that temperature.  If the PlantLoop is a hot water loop and there is a boiler on the supply side, then the boiler might modulate to maintain the setpoint temperature.  Not all equipment is capable of maintaining all setpoints, so sometimes the setpoint is not met and other problems can result, but think about it as a desired state within the plantloop controls.
