RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] ASHRAE 90.1 Interpretation_LAB Building System Selection

Jason,

Talk to me so I can learn something  …. I suspect that you have more experience interpreting 90.1, but it appears to me that you must use System 8 unless your facility is a lab (or any of the other exceptions).  If you have a lab with more than XXX outdoor air, then system type 5 or 7 becomes the baseline.

Javed,

the rest of the paragraph is relevant:

For laboratory spaces with a minimum of 2400 L/sof
exhaust, use system type 5 or 7 that reduce the
exhaust and makeup air volume to 50% of design
values during unoccupied periods. For all-electric
buildings, the heating shall be electric resistance.

You mentioned the building size meant that you had to use system 8, so I must infer that you have an all electric building.
Therefore, you should use System 8 for the Lab.
Schedule the system flow rate (both supply and exhaust fans) to be at 100% of design flow during occupied periods and 50% of design during unoccupied periods.

Also note that G3.1.2.10 likely applies as well and the system will likely require energy recovery at 50% effectiveness.
