[EnergyPlus_Support] Re: Inquiry regarding saving & retrieving of a SketchUp or Open Studio Modeling files

Step 1) NEVER EVER SAVE THE SKP file. Use the plugin and save and load the idf only. 

When simulating with eplus the idf (input data file) is what is simulated...(almost) nothing else matters. If the geometry description is not defined in the idf (correctly/incorrectly) and whether it is defined by hand or by a third party software such as DesignBuilder, Bentley AECOsim, Openstudio, etc. the master remains the IDF.

Step 2) Don't start from scratch. Look in the examples folder that comes with the eplus installation. Copy an example idf into your own folder (start with something simple), and load it into sketchup, with the openstudio plugin. Open the idf in a text editor. Mess around with it. Change the geometry. Change the occupation schedule. Checkout the getting started documentation.

Step 3) The master reference documentation is the inputoutput reference guide (io ref. for short). You will use this all the time. Search in it by object name and via the contents page.
