[EnergyPlus_Support] Re: Multiple HVACTemplates Per Zone Error

Hey Dr. Li,

I really appreciate your help, I finally figured out my mistake. I am fairly familiar with the E+ coding, although I prefer the IDFeditor, but I realized what I was doing. I had no experience with the DOAS and didn't realize it would solve my problem by putting it into the HVACTemplate.

You need to enter two sets, one for each AHU group, (or one per floor) and a third set for the basement. I cannot say more about the options, because I do not know how your system is controlled. "The issue right now is that the zones are controlled by two separate systems. The fan coils are controlled by an old pneumatic Honey Well system whereas one constant volume air handler feeds the basement and two multizone air handlers control the first and second floor. All the controlled by modern electronic controls. We have room thermostats for each of the fan coils but a few temperature sensors for the air handlers." More detailed information is required to define the controller. Do you wish to change over the cooling and heating in an on demand basis or in a seasonal basis? Why do you have the AHU and the fan coil unit in each zone? What is the temperature of the supply air from the AHU, and how is this temperature determined? Because you are not familiar with the EPlus coding, it will be very difficult to change objects directly in the .expIDF, without the original template running successfully. Dr. Li

I am tentatively planning on not modeling the switch over losses and just subtracting the energy loss from our metered energy consumption for baseline energy consumption.

I got the error that says "ZONE NAME". Names must be unique across all HVACTemplate:Zone: objects. Because of this I am assuming that I can't use the HVACTemplate to "set up the nodes" and then swap out objects keeping the nodes there.

I then took the expidf and put in two AirTerminal:DualDuct:Constant Volume for the MZ air handlers then replaced AirTerminal:SingleDuct:VAV:NoReheat but I put in a constant volume fan and set the min/max airflow to being the same. Would the AirTerminal:SingleDuct:Uncontrolled be a good replacement for this? Would I then remove the zone equipment if I did that?

I haven't gotten it working yet but I am looking for guidance on if this makes sense and whether or not I can get two HVACTemplate:Zone... to the same zone using the HVACTemplate objects instead of the longer way.
