Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Location dependent inputs

Keep in mind I did say that the weatherfilecondition type object is the EASIEST, AND DID NOT SAY IT WAS THE BEST.
Dru, The issue with your way is as follows; Lets say the user wants to run a parametric study in JE+ , or using EP launch. With weatherfilecondition type they can use one or many IDF and or IMF's with as many weather files as they want right away without any modification of the IDF/IMF, where the other option requires a new IMF or IDF for each location. Correct me if I am wrong but the mistakes made by attempting to track changes across a large group of files might just be less accurate than weatherfileconditiontype.. My use was to gauge best perscripive methods for installing PCM's, so I was not really looking for absolutes but rather was looking for ratios.  Weatherfileconditiontype is especially useful for attaining general ratios, but not as useful for exact sizing of HVAC systems- but E+ is not really a load sizing tool- even tho it can/does load sizing very well. I guess it just depends what you studying, or if you are looking to do preliminary modeling at first and then detailed (with design days) later..(such as was likely the intention of the object)

All the best- and Dru-keep up the great work on AECOsim

Hello,

I'm new at EnergyPlus, but do have some experience with DOE-2.. I'm trying to take the PNNL prototype models and run the for some different locations. Since the HVAC and Plant equipment is set to autosize, I was hoping that I would only have to change the weather file and I'd be good to go. However, after some digging it does seem that there are a few inputs I have to change in the IDF, mainly the sizingperiod:designdays. Are there any other inputs i need to change to get an accurate run in different locations? Is there a general procedure I can follow to update the model for a different location?

thanks,

-cliff.
