Just thinking?.

The larger the scale, the less small differences affect the model.  For a neighborhood, it does not matter if Mr. Smith arrives home from work at 7pm instead of 5pm when the other 99 neighbors arrive home at 5pm. Mr. Smith?s home is affected significantly, but the neighborhood is not.

Similarly, if Mr. Smith?s home is very leaky (high infiltration), but other homes have low infiltration, an energy model will not show any significant difference.

This sort of analysis (large scale) can probably be handled nicely with a statistical model, not a thermodynamic model.
