RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] Re: ASHRAE 90.1 and BuildingGroundSurfaceTemperature

When the ground is covered with ice and snow, the temperature below ground is about the same for all regions.   Alaska is not much colder under the ground surface.

In Canada, the basement usually has a small window above ground.

The exposed portion of the basement wall and down to 1 meter below ground of the same wall are to be insulated the same amount as the main building exterior wall. (R12, R8 minimum)

If the basement is finished as a living spce, the insulation is down to the basement floor with the proper installation of a vapour barrier.

This is for real building.  The basement floor is not insulated.

I have seen the drawing of such insulation in the EPlus document as well.

Dr. Ooi"s floor may not have a basement below.  Am I right?

Ooi, out of interest...is it too cold in your simulation model or in reality?

Niraj,

i have not used the example file generator, so my answer has this preempt.

The Slab and Basement preprocessors are designed for specific cases. The Basement preprocessor only half or full height vertical insulation, no intermediate height insulation. Further, the ground covers up to the top of the basement walls.

i have a nearly square 150 m2 wooden floor that is raised 400mm above ground. The floor is too cold in Melbourne Australia winter. Any suggestion on how to insulate?
