Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] E+ 7.2 to E+ 8 Conversion of a group of files

If you are just trying to create the file list, then it is quite simple from the Command Prompt:
  1. Move all your files into a single (can be temporary) location
  2. Open a Command Prompt (Start Button > cmd > {enter})
  3. Change to that directory that holds the idfs (cd Folder\Folder\Folder)
  4. List the files with the dir command to make sure they are in there (type dir and press enter)
  5. Then output this list in a bare format to an lst file: (dir /B > ..\files.lst)
    1. This will output the lst file to the parent directory.  If you output it to the current directory, the files.lst file may actually get listed in the files.lst listing itself.
Maybe that's not what you wanted to know, but now it's out there anyway!

Good luck,
Edwin

Hi Dru and Jeremiah,

I did go over the documentation and it is working now. I basically did exactly what Dru said, created a .lst file with the file name and directory of all the .idf files and envoked the .lst file using the idfversionupdater. I am converting all my older versions of .idfs to 8.0's now. Thank you both for looking into this for me.

Sincerely yours'
Niraj

Thank you Dru.

It looks like I need to "Note: to convert a set of files, one creates a .lst file that contains the filenames (including path) for the IDFVersionConverter program to read.  (more details in the Auxiliary Programs document)."

I will work on this and see if I can get all my .idf files converted.

Thanks again,
Niraj

Read the ?Multiple IDF Version Conversions Readme? and download the set for your platform.  It not only allows you to convert multiple versions (say from v6.0 to v8.0) but it allows you to convert multiple IDFs as well.

Subject: [EnergyPlus_Support] E+ 7.2 to E+ 8 Conversion of a group of files

Dear all,

I tried looking for answers in the energy plus support group on how to convert a group of .idf files from one version to the other. As of now, I am only able to convert each .idf file one by one. Is there a way to have them 'sent' to be converted all at once?

Thanking you in advance,
Niraj
