Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Problems with extracting hourly variables from EnergyPlus

Joe,
I am sure others will chime in with more answers, however I can share a bit.

For heat flux, there are a few new options that do not have heat flux in their title. You can find out about them by searching for "Inside Heat Flux to surface",  in the documentation. You will find the new heat flux variables. For many of them you will need to have use the output diagnostics option
Key 1 DisplayAdvancedReportVariables on.

As of V8 there was a complete overhaul of output variable names and they do not necessarily update with the version update utility.
I suggest you set your output variable dictionary to IDF, [after turning on DisplayAdvancedReportVariables]
Then run your file, open your .RDD file and choose your outputs.
I think the new heat flux is Output:Variable,*,Surface Average Face Conduction Heat Transfer Rate per Area, hourly; !- Zone Average [W/m2]

I'm doing some diagnostic simulations comparing EnergyPlus to another program (not DOE-2 :-)), and need to extract hourly variables for zone air temperature, inside surface temperature and heat fluxes through an interior wall.  I took some old IDFs from 6 years ago, ran them through the IDFVersionUpdater to get Version 8.0 IDFs, and used the resultant reporting for the zone air temperature, but I'm not getting anything in the output *.eso.

Output:Variable,*,Site Outdoor Air Drybulb Temperature,Monthly;   < this works
Output:Variable,*,Zone/Sys Air Temp,Hourly;                  < this does not work
Output:Variable,*,Zone Air System Sensible Cooling Rate,Monthly;    < this works
Output:Variable,*,Zone Air System Sensible Heating Rate,Monthly;   < this does not work

Also, what is the syntax for specifying the heat flux for a particular surface ?  I tried this but it doesn't work:

  Output:Variable,
    *,                       !- Key_Value
    HOUSE:AT-FLOOR2 Heat Flow,  !- Variable_Name
    Hourly;                  !- Reporting_Frequency

Thanks
