RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] Solar passive efficiency

In reality, the facility will have a HVAC system but isn’t yet designed. In this project phase, I have to assist the architects to choose the best materials to elevate building passive efficiency.

I already included infiltration and others internal gains. Whit PCM, I have a slightly difference in the zone mean air temperature but I expected a larger difference.



I count the number of hours that the zone mean air temperature is below 4°C and I have 43 hours without the PCM and 33 with the PCM. I think the reason to this small difference is the first temperature in my enthalpy/temperature table is 5°C so the PCM do nothing until this temperature. Am I correct?

In facilities without mechanical ventilation systems (which I doubt is legally acceptable in Canada...even a bathroom exhaust is mechanical), it is important to consider infiltration and window ventilation and strongly advised designed natural ventilation systems and devices.



In short, you can't model a box without these aspects and expect it to behave as in reallity.



In lab conditions, you must control these aspects. Our expert on the forum for PCMs is Jeremiah Crossett. Search all his posts out. PCMs are tricky to get just right. �
