Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] EnergyPlus suitability for use in my postgrad project
:-) It wasn't my email implying he could do it all because he had a CompSc background.
Actually, that's part of the reason for recommending TrnSys. It's GUI is far easier to use for controls logic and it's easier to set up a basic building. The support and example database is however lacking. Perhaps the best way forward is to use an existing example file and indeed use EMS. I just found it likely that he's already got something programed in say c++ and you can't simply link this in e+ (or can you). TrnSys links with external programs like COMIS, so perhaps it is easier. I've never looked at the virtual testbed stuff, but from memory e+ should also somehow be link-able to external programs. And properly setting up hydronic heating systems is tricky with e+. Difficalt question.

If you have an Intel Fortran compiler, you could even tweek or write your own componants. In fact, I would go as far as to recommend it in your case. However, it also has quite a learning curve.

I then need to use an API to link this model (specifically turning heating on/off command) to my own model (for home occupancy predication). My model will be based on several sensors around the home with a controller unit to detect when occupants are asleep / away etc. and regulate the heating accordingly.
