Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Re: Simulation Time

Julien,

I haven't tried the AnnualSimulationSplitter ruby script.  Rarely do any of the simulations require an entire core.  I have run 25 simulations simultaneously and its a two-core machine.

Dru,

That's only simultaneous runs though, isn't it?
The extract from "New features" seem to imply that would work on one run.

Otherwise, In the "Files" section of this group, https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/EnergyPlus_Support/files/Utilities/, there's a script called "AnnualSimulationSplitter.rb" that apparently breaks an annual simulation into discrete chunks (you'll run January on one core, February on one core for eg).
Never used it though, and not sure how much error that introduces.

If you are using EP-Launch, you can increase the number of simultaneous runs (I have run 20 simultaneously):

In EP-Launch, click on View, Options.  Then increase the â??Number of Simultaneous Processesâ?? under Command Window to a larger number.  But be warned ? this may load up the computer if you select too many, making it difficult to do anything else.

Subject: [EnergyPlus_Support] Re: Simulation Time

I read among  the â??New Features in Version 7.1.0â?? http://apps1.eere.energy.gov/buildings/energyplus/energyplus_archives.cfm that

â??EnergyPlus can now use multi-core processors to speed execution of models with large geometry descriptionsâ??.

But in this discussion I read: â??E+ model only uses 1 core at a time at 100%â??

Could I use more than one core for a model?

My processor is  Intel(R) Core? i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz

Iâ??m using Windows 7.

Although I gave EnergyPlus a high priority, the processes are using only 12% of the CPU and only 28% of the memory.

It seems that the object ProgramControl (number of threads allowed) has no effect.

How could I use the processor in order to maximize the velocity of the simulation?

Regards
