Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] ECU EnergyPlus Question

You're right. A PTAC is the right kind of HVAC. Using the template objects is a good way to start. I would suggest finding out the combination required, some of which you've already mentioned.

A tip if you're modelling a tent. e+ does not deal well with "thin" constructions. Make a thick construction and then almost completely cover it with a dark tinted window with single pane glass...if nessesary adjust the glass material properties like emmissivity to reflect a tent's. Be sure to include a lot of infiltration airflow.

Greetings,

I'm trying to input the following 60k BTU/HR ECU (image of specs attached and below) into an EnergyPlus file using the idf editor but I am relatively new to EnergyPlus so I'm having trouble figuring out which values to use for the required EnergyPlus fields.  I apologize in advance if some of these may seem obvious to you and I would greatly appreciate your input. I've gone through the manuals and I'm still having trouble.

The ECU will be used in a single zone 20'x30' building with vinyl sides in very cold temperatures.

The fields which I am unsure of are:
*Type of HVAC equipment I believe would be  PackagedTerminalAirConditioner buy I'm not sure.
*HVACTemplateZone:PTAC (all values)
*Sizing:Parameters (all values)
*Air flow values

ECU DESCRIPTION: 60K BTU/HR - ECU. It is used to cool, dehumidify, heat and filter circulating air in tents and shelters to meet equipment and personnel requirements. The 60K BTU/hr ECU, is self-contained in a single cabinet that is ideally suited for tent installations.  The ECU is designed to circulate, filter, and cool or heat air in the room or enclosure to which it is attached by flexible ducts. The ECU features a variable frequency compressor motor drive to limit in-rush current.

Any suggestions on which fields can be filled in EnergyPlus using these specs below would be of tremendous help.

ECU SPECIFICATIONS (also attached in image) :
*Operating Temperatures: Cooling = 40 to 125°F ; Heating = -50 to 70°F
*Control: Internally or remotely mounted control box
*Power Consumption: Maximum 11.0 kW
*Minimum Power Factor: 0.90
*Dimensions (Max.) 42-inch (L) x 35-inch (W) x 46-inch (H)
*Refrigerant R410A (6.7 lbs (3.04 kg) total charge), non-ozone depleting
*Minimum Evaporator Air Flow 1,700 SCFM
*Compressor Oil type: Compressor Polyester Oil (CPOE)
*Compressor Capacity: 60 oz

*Minimum Cooling Capacity:
- Total: 60,000 Btu/hr (Minimum) Cooling
-Sensible: 45,000 Btu/hr (Minimum) Cooling
-Desired Sensible: 48,000 Btu/hr Cooling
-50 Hz Total: 44,000 Btu/hr (Minimum) Cooling

*Minimum Heating Capacity: Total: 9.94 kW (33,935 Btu/hr)
*Minimum Fresh Air Airflow 280 SCFM

The ECU is designed to automatically maintain the air in the room or enclosure at the desired temperature selected on the remote box assembly.

Thank you very much!

Abe
