Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] TABS-Thermally-Active Building System

Hi Jer,
Long time no see. I just did a training with some folk where I used this example for some idf practice. You can use the low temp rad object to heat and cool in e+. So what I do is I pick one in DB and then adjust the idf for the other. here's an example I did with my group. Check out the zone EG:12XCDXBeuro2. Go to "EG:12XCDXBeuro2 Chilled Ceiling". This was a chilled ceiling and we hooked up the heating. Follow the Node names for the heating to see that I added a new branch, listed it on the branchlist, and at the splitter and mixer. At the lowtemprad object we added the new node names, capacity, etc. analogue to the cooling stuff.
Hope this helps,
Jean

Dear Group,

I am looking to model a "thermally active building system". The plant is a ground source heat exchanger. I am told that they will use the floor for both the heating and cooling loops.  When setting up the model in Design Builder I can only add a chilled ceiling and heated floor. Since the floors and ceilings are inverse of each other, it seemed that this would have been workable- however it seems that the model will not run because a surface can not have more than one loop.

..... Last severe error=Interzone surface 4THFLOOR:ZONE1_CEILING_1_0_0 is referenced by more than one radiant system--this is not allowed
************* Warning:  Node connection errors not checked - most system input has not been read (see previous warning).
************* Fatal error -- final processing.  Program exited before simulations began.  See previous error messages.

This leaves me to wonder if it is possible to use the ground source heat pump for both heating or cooling so that there is only a single loop that changes from heating to cooling mode on a schedule.  Perhaps there is a way in Design Builder, but so far I have not found a way..  Currently the only thing I can think of is two models (one for heating and one for cooling) but would rather have a single model for obvious reasons.

Thanks for any suggestions- file attached and system description below.

â??TABS-Thermally-Active Building Systemâ?? (TABS acc. to ISO 11855-1) is based on the thermal storage capacity of parts of a building. The â??Activeâ?? element of a combined heating and/or cooling system is achieved by embedding pipes in the structural concrete slabs of the building. TABS operate at temperatures close to ambient which facilitates the integration of renewable energy and cooling sources that are free of cost. Concrete floors and ceilings can be used for the heating and/or cooling of buildings.

Water temperatures for heating and cooling on active slabs:

Summer mode: water regime: 20 ° C to 22°C

Winter operation: water regime: 22 ° C to 24 ° C
