Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Building is heating and cooling at the same time

Thank you Linda for the post. Detailed view is important to understand the big picture. One of the reason why heating and cooling occurs at hourly rate might be due to automated selection of zone system. The zone system need further configurations, such as indoor temperature changes and the simulation might have selected the automated/ default values for heating / cooling for the same zone. It would good to know what is the objective here? Do u want to calculate total load in h/c?

Sometimes, we do picks up the hourly average reading and realize the system is reacting in a way heating and cooling. But that is not the case or either the values might have automated mode (null!). Peak sensible cooling load for the given time period, and may be unavailable for next hour. I suggest you should use detail timestep process to evaluate the indoor requirement of heating and cooling and then run the model. Detail customization is required at timestep level.

I think I am starting to understand more by the detailed view. But I do not understand why "Peak Cooling Sensible Heat Gain Components" output is calculated for some zones and not for others? Is there a setting that controls this being reported?

So, you need to report at a more detailed level. "Detailed" shows at
system time step whereas "timestep" shows at zone time steps so that you
understand it is not fighting by heating and cooling simultaneously.

It will also help you diagnose why you are getting this cycling.
