Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Fan coil question

Hook it up the same way you would connect other ZoneHVAC equipment (e.g., PTAC or PTHP), just use the object name AirloopHVAC:UnitarySystem.

I have never seen an AirLoop object listed in the zone equipment list. If AirLoopHVAC:UnitarySystem can function as a zone equipment (listed in the list) that would be very interesting and very new to me. Time to ask the helpdesk I'd say. Keep us posted.

Thanks for that hint.

I don’t completely understand the use of the AirLoopHVAC:UnitarySystem object. You note ZoneHVAC:UnitarySystem but the IO Reference doesn’t specifically include that object. In the AirLoopHVAC:UnitarySystem description, it states that this object can be modeled as zone equipment (i.e., listed in a ZoneHVAC:EquipmentList). This leaves me wondering exactly how it would be defined in an example.

I grepped the ExampleFiles folder and didn’t find an example of ZoneHVAC:UnitarySystem in any of those files.

Jim's suggestion would work.

There's a ZoneHVAC:UnitarySystem that would do the job here as well: it accepts a cooling coil, a heating coil and a supplementary heating coil as far as I recall.

Perhaps in newer versions...in the past I would implement a unitary system (which is not a zone equipment, but you could imagine it as such) which can have water or dx cooling + water or dx or electric heating. The catch is you can only have one unit (airloop) per zone, where as with zone equipment there is no limit.

We see many high rise multi-family buildings with 2-pipe fan coils and a backup electric heating coil for shoulder seasons when the system is in cooling mode. Can this type of arrangement be modeled with EnergyPlus?
