Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] What is the difference between "WindowMaterial:Glazing" and "WindowMaterial:Glazing:Equivalent Layer"

But what if I want to add drape properties like width of pleated fabric, etc. I found them only in "WindowMaterial:Drape:Equivalet Layer". Is there any other way of defining such things and calculate daylighting?

The fenestration model "Construction:WindowEquivalentLayer" model also called the "ASHWAT" model doesn't support daylight control. So, if you want to model daylighting please use the other fenestration/window models.

I will definitely try that. Thank you so much.

I am not sure. You might want to submit a ticket with your IDF file and a full description on the EnergyPlus helpdesk:

Thank you Jason. I tried the Contruction:WindowEquivalentLayer object as well. In that case the daylighting of the building is not giving correct result.
In my program I defined a clear glass material in WindowMaterial:Glazing: Equivalent Layer and added that in Contruction:WindowEquivalentLayer. I specified the visible transmittance properties as well. But the glass is being treated as if it has zero visible transmittance and no light is getting transmitted through it. Even for different transmittance values it is giving the same result.
Can you please help me with that?

The WindowMaterial objects that end with "EquivalentLayer" can only be used with the Contruction:WindowEquivalentLayer object and cannot be used with the regular Construction object. These objects are using the ASHWAT model for the window layer descriptions. Please see the InputOutputReference section on Construction:WindowEquivalentLayer for more information.

I have added the window glazing properties in "WindowMaterial:Glazing" and the drape properties in "WindowMaterial:Drape:Equivalent Layer". But when I am trying to include both of them in "Construction" the drape material is not coming in the list for selection. Is it not possible to combine normal material with equivalent material in a construction?

Equivalent glazing is more flexible regarding function and positioning of shading...however it is more complicated to set up.

Hello,

Can anyone tell me the difference between "WindowMaterial:Glazing" and "WindowMaterial:Glazing: Equivalent Layer" in EnergyPlus? When I am defining a material in Equivalent layer it is not showing while defining a "Construction". Please help.

Thank you,
Amrita
