I can offer a partial answer to question 1:

I am going to assume you are concerned with horizontal heat flow in the roof overhang.  All EnergyPlus heat flows are perpendicular to the surface.  If you want to model an overhang which may add or subtract heat from the space, you would have to define a perimeter strip of roof with different properties that you expect would perform the same as the overhang (less insulation and more solar absorption).  A program like THERM which does 2D heat flow calculations may assist you in defining an effective width and set of properties for edge.  EnergyPlus then performs 1D calcs on the effective edge properties.
